Some Nuts and Bolts of International Student Insurance

Remember to read the fine print of the student health insurance plans you are considering. If your graduation plans are fluid, check the policy on early termination of the policy and the associated refund.
Once you are set with an insurance plan, the important thing is to know what to do when something goes wrong with your health. When you fall ill, you may want immediate attention, and make a quick trip to the emergency room. Resist the temptation to visit the ER unless it is an emergency.
If you do visit the ER, remember to check that your visit is covered, and also to pre-notify the insurance company. If your complaint does not meet the specified parameters, your international student health insurance plan may not cover your ER visit, and you will be stuck with a huge bill. A reliable first medical care point is always your college health service provider—that is, the doctor’s office on campus.
