International travel medical insurance covers against most unplanned medical illnesses and accidents. This means that if your beloved is down with the flu, you can seek immediate medical help and salvage the rest of your vacation, instead of waiting to get back home.
In case you are involved in an accident, the insurance will also cover you for any treatment that is given to you. In the worst case (although you certainly don’t want to think about it), the insurance plan also pays for your emergency evacuation to the nearest hospital that can treat your condition.
It is, anyway, better to be healthy than sick. Following simple cleanliness and common sense will help keep illnesses at bay. Also remember that the special treat is for the two of you, and the last thing you should worry about is medical care or the costs associated with it!

Marine Insurance Back at Originating Dock?

Marine crew insurance can help protect a mariner under dire conditions, and helps restore good health during rocky times. Mariners manage several perils during their voyages, and a voyage on a ship is no walk in the park.
These days, with pirates wreaking havoc off the coast of Somalia, it is but natural that cargo companies and crew are extra wary about their safety and that of the cargo. Marine crew insurance becomes even more valuable at such a time. Shippers now have to also deal with increased insurance premiums if the ship must travel through the Gulf of Aden.
In this scenario, every crew member must check their insurance policy for the fine print to verify that they have adequate insurance coverage. Shippers usually also purchase ransom insurance, which is not part of the marine crew insurance plan. If necessary, ask your employer about the safety measures and other insurance that would affect you.
Typical marine crew insurance covers health, emergency evacuation, and repatriation of remains, almost anywhere in the world. While the incidence of piracy around the Gulf of Aden has shocked many, it is ironic that insurance, which began as a safety net against pirates of days gone by, is still required for the same purpose!

Around the World with Health Intact: Sponsored by Travel Insurance

When Jules Verne wrote his classic “Around the World in Eighty Days,” international travel wasn’t all that popular, nor was international travel insurance. Clearly, Phileas Fogg and his valet Passepartout did not have to deal with the multitude of plans and benefits available. But then, medical care was not as expensive as it is today.
While Verne’s book was supposed to be a science fiction novel, it is now possible to travel around the world in less than tenth that time! While Mankind has undoubtedly advanced in many areas, more and more dangers lurk around every corner of the world. Attacks on aid workers have increased dramatically over the last decade, and acts of terrorism routinely find a place on news bulletins.
The need for international travel insurance has only increased. Typical benefits offered by travel insurance plans include care for unplanned medical care, accidental death and dismemberment, emergency evacuation, and repatriation of remains. While it may sound pessimistic to think about what might go wrong even before the trip, it only makes common sense.
Depending on the kind of travel and accommodation you are planning, it may be a good idea to also purchase trip cancellation insurance. Else, any event that cancels your trip may end up in the loss of a lot of money for you. And remember, after Fogg’s round-the-world trip, he won 20,000 British pounds—you don’t want to owe $20,000 in medical expenses!

Follow the Food Route With Fun (and Insurance)!

This year, your international travel insurance may extend to any country, but if you’re visiting the United States, beware of vampires! No, Americans have not been subjected to mass mutation, but the top U.S. holiday spot could well be Forks, in the state of Washington, where the Twilight movie was filmed.
And it’s not just the bloodsuckers that are poised to drive tourists, it is also the culinary delights of Jamie Oliver. Many stops on Oliver’s food show "The American Road Trip" are now major tourist attractions in their own right!
Tourists following a food trail must especially be careful about their health. Yes, it may seem wimpish to drink bottled water, when the idea of local cuisine calls for loosening all inhibitions. But remember that if you’re traveling in a strange land, you are already more susceptible to infections and illnesses.
Add to that the variety of gastronomic delights that you are exposed to, and you have a sure-fire recipe for illness, unless you are careful. Always check the ingredients of what you are about to eat, especially if you have any known food allergies. Also remember to carry your international travel health insurance card with you at all times. Bon appetite—be it blood or bread you’re after!
