Detroit Metropolitan Airport topped the list, which may be somewhat surprising given the city's economic difficulties. In fact, the airport was ranked much lower (12th) on the survey only two years ago. However, the airport as commended by travelers for its high standards of cleanliness and its dining and shopping options. That's encouraging news to other struggling airports who may fear that it could take years to correct consumer perception problems.
Other airports ranking high on the list include Denver, Minneapolis, Orlando, and Phoenix. Criteria used to evaluate airports in the study included dining choices, security check-in process (obviously an increasingly larger concern these days), baggage claim, accessibility, and overall comfort level in the terminal. Airports ranking lowest included New York's JFK, Philadelphia, Miami, and LAX in Los Angeles.
You can learn more about the study at JD Power's web site. See how your travel experiences rank against what your fellow consumers report.
