Last week, a cruise ship called the Louis Majesty was traveling through the coast of northeast Spain when it was hit by 26 foot waves. While cruises are fun, cost-effective vacation options, this incident is an unfortunate reminder that danger can still strike during them. If you're planning a cruise, make sure you're doing so with international medical insurance.

Sadly, two passengers aboard the ship died, and 14 others were injured. Should you become injured in international waters, there's a very good chance your insurance policy will not cover you. That means you will need to pay for medical coverage yourself, which can be extremely expensive.

However, if you have international medical insurance you will be able to receive high quality healthcare at an affordable rate. It will cover minor and major incidents alike, offering you robust protection in the face of unforeseen circumstances.

Medical care may be the last thing you'd think about when planning your next cruise, but it's definitely not something you should forget. As the Louis Majesty tragedy reminds us, anything can and sometimes does happen on a cruise ship.
