We have all been saddened by the environmental damage sustained in the gulf coast thanks to the recent oil spill. But you may not realize this environmental disaster could become an economic disaster for the region’s tourism industry. If you are considering a visit to the area from another country, you may want to consider protecting your investment with international travel insurance.

As clean-up efforts intensify, they may not be enough to make the area an immediately viable tourist destination once again. So your plans to visit the once-beautiful beaches in the area may be derailed. And without international travel insurance, that could be a very costly problem for you.

Insurance for international travel will help reimburse the expenses associated with travel cancellations and re-scheduling. So when you cancel or re-schedule a flight, instead of being out your initial investment, you can re-coup a large portion of losses.

With the current situation in the gulf cost, needing to cancel your trip or postpone it until later in the year is a very real possibility. Don’t take a needless financial loss when the alternative of travel insurance offers you a safer option.

The U.S. has recently extended its existing travel warning to citizens considering traveling to Mexico. If you are planning a trip to this country despite warnings to the contrary, you should strongly consider protecting yourself with international health insurance.

Ongoing violence between warring drug cartels in northern Mexico continues to make the region a dangerous place for tourists. While violence may not be aimed squarely at tourists, it is not uncommon for innocent travelers to be caught in the middle of it.

For any traveler unfortunate enough to be injured in these situations, international health insurance is the best way to gain access to affordable high-quality health care. The network of skilled physicians offered by your health insurance plan will provide the stellar care you need to fully recover.

And the care itself will be made affordable by insurance. International medical insurance absorbs most of the costs of doctor's and hospital visits, leaving you to pay only a very manageable small portion of the bill. Do not venture into this dangerous area without at least assuring yourself of the coverage you need to protect yourself in a medical emergency.
The month of May brings about the traditional beginning of wedding season in the United States. Spring and early summer has always been the most popular time to have weddings, and while that timing isn't changing, the preferred wedding location just might be. For many couples, having a wedding at a traditional spot like a local church is being passed up in favor of a wedding at an international location. From the beaches of Jamaica to a romantic city like Paris, more and more couples are thinking outside the box by venturing outside the country for their nuptials. If you're considering this for your own wedding, or you've been invited to the wedding of a friend or family member, make sure that international health insurance is near the top of your travel preparation list.

Even though you may have a very good health insurance policy in your native country, it most likely does not offer you coverage in foreign countries. So if you need to visit a hospital during the wedding trip, you will be considered uninsured.

Being uninsured can have some very costly consequences. Rather than paying the reasonably-priced co-pays you are used to paying in your home country, you'll be stuck paying the full cost of your medical expenses. That could mean hundreds of dollars for prescriptions, tests, and the visit itself.

Getting ill or injured while on your wedding trip or someone else's is terrible in and of itself. But having no insurance and facing huge medical bills will make a bad situation even worse. International health insurance will absorb the majority of those costs, so that if food poisoning, a virus, an accident, or some other medical problem strikes, you can rest easily knowing you're covered.

A poll currently on CNN.com asks travelers if they have ever purchased travel insurance. Unfortunately, at the time of this posting, 52% of respondents indicated they had not. That means many travelers are likely getting stuck paying more than they need to when travel inconveniences occur.

The concept of travel insurance is simple. By paying a small fee to a travel insurance provider, your international travel investment will be protected financially. So if your flight is cancelled, or you miss a connection, or your luggage is lost, you can seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

With delays becoming more frequent and the cost of travel constantly increasing, international travel insurance has become a very wise investment. Without it, you could find yourself facing thousands of dollars in expenses if your travel plans suddenly change.

If you have to re-schedule a cancelled flight, you'll likely be stuck paying for both the old flight and the new one. Plus, you may need to change your hotel booking, which could incur additional fees. And those costs are just the tip of the iceberg; rental cars, event tickets, and other travel expenses may also need to be purchased all over again. Travel insurance will help you get reimbursement for at least part of these costs, saving you a significant amount of money. So if you are one of the 52% not using travel insurance, ask yourself one question: can I afford not to?
